In Gadsden, Alabama, the property and housing inspector with community development coordinates volunteers for a house-painting program partially funded by Housing and Urban Development. The charitable program benefits some local senior citizens who need to have their homes painted, but can’t afford to hire a house painting contractor.

According to a recent article in the Gadsden Times:

The city buys the paint and materials for volunteer organizations to paint the house, but the homeowner gets to choose the paint and trim colors.

The city can spend up to $500 on each home, and this year Colours on Meighan Boulevard won the bid for the program.

The city is looking for more volunteer organizations to be able to help more elderly homeowners who fit the income criteria to benefit from this charitable house painting program.

In many communities, local house painting contractors will donate time to charitable community house painting projects during their slower season.
